The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of veteran director Rotimi Raji, popularly known as Genius. Reports indicate that Raji was found lifeless in his bathroom on February 15, just a day after Valentine’s Day. The filmmaker, who lived alone in Baruwa, Ipaja, Lagos, reportedly slumped and passed away. His death was noticed after a concerned neighbor, alarmed by his unusual silence, repeatedly called out to him. Upon peering through an open window, the neighbor saw his motionless body on the bathroom floor. Authorities and family members were alerted, his door was forced open, and his remains were taken to the mortuary. His grieving relatives are now demanding a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of his sudden death.
Ghanaian rap icon Sarkodie delivered an emotional endorsement of young artist Kweku Smoke during the latter's "Revival Concert" on December 18, 2024, at Ghud Park in Accra. Sarkodie, making a surprise appearance, praised Kweku Smoke for his dedication and resilience in the music industry. He recounted their first meeting, stating, "The first time I met Kweku Smoke at my house and listened to his song, I was so impressed that I recorded three verses on the spot. Ghanaian singer Camidoh has shared an emotional message with his fans, addressing his long break from releasing music. In his latest social media post, he Sugarcane hitmaker admitted that he has not dropped as much music as expected. He explained that despite working on new songs, things have not gone as planned, expressing that it pains him just as much. “I know I haven’t released as much music as I should have over the past year, and I know you see me constantly working on new music but not dropping it,” he wrote. Camidoh hinted at challenges preventing him from putting out new material but assured fans he is working tirelessly to resolve them. “Sometimes, things just don’t go the way you want them to, and it hurts more than I can explain. But I need you to know that I’m doing everything I can to fix the things that have been holding me back.”
Sharon Stone is in talks to star in the long-awaited third season of HBO‘s "Euphoria". The veteran actress would be joining a starry roster on the hit show, which includes Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Maude Apatow, Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie, Eric Dane and Colman Domingo, among others. Stone, an Oscar nominee, would be a notable addition to Euphoria season three, having starred in dozens of notable films throughout her decades-long career, including "Basic Instinct", "Total Recall", "Sliver", and "Casino", the latter directed by Martin Scorsese. Most recently, she worked alongside Bob Odenkirk in "Nobody 2", Universal’s sequel to the 2021 surprise hit that’s set to premiere in theaters on August 15.
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, the multi award-winning Nigerian author has announced the birth of her twins with husband, Ivara Esege. She made the good news known during her interview with The Guardian where she also spoke about her new book, Dream Count, cancel culture and other topics. The 47-year-old author revealed that she welcomed her twins months ago but kept the news private because she wants to protect her children. Chimamanda disclosed that many didn’t know she got married in 2009, noting further that Nigerians are nosy people, which has made her a bit hesitant to talk about her family. Addressing the interviewer, Charlotte Edwardes, Chimamanda said, “You’ve met my babies. I want to protect my children. I’m OK with having them mentioned, but I don’t want the piece to become about them. “So, here’s the thing, Nigerians are nosy, they want to know about your personal life. Because of that, I am resistant. I very rarely talk about it.
Nollywood actor Timini Egbuson has opened up about the struggles of forming lasting connections in today's world, expressing frustration over the fleeting nature of relationships. Ghanaian musician Article Wan has accused highlife artiste Kuami Eugene of being disrespectful after an incident involving his song “That Thing,” featuring Patapaa. Speaking on Angel FM on Saturday, Article Wan revealed that Kuami Eugene criticized the song about three years ago, calling it senseless and lacking understanding. “Kuami Eugene granted an interview on GHOne and said something negative about Patapaa, which Patapaa shared with me. I asked him to calm down, but then I found out my name was mentioned too. Someone sent me the video, and I got angry, so my team retaliated,” Article Wan said. He also shared that Richie Mensah, Kuami Eugene's boss, later apologized on Eugene's behalf and requested Article Wan to take down retaliatory tweets.
