‘Another Simple Favor,’ with Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick, to open SXSW

“Another Simple Favor,” Paul Feig’s sequel to his 2018 noir comedy starring Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively, will open the SXSW Film and TV Festival. Organizers of the Austin, Texas, festival announced Tuesday that the long-awaited “A Simple Flavor” sequel will kick of this year’s edition on March 7. The Amazon MGM release plots another twist-filled round of murder and betrayal, with Stephanie Smothers (Kendrick) and Emily Nelson (Lively) heading to an Italy wedding on Capri. “When we saw this film last fall, we instantly knew it had to open SXSW — it gave us that electric feeling we live for as programmers,” said Claudette Godfrey, festival vice president, in a statement. SXSW has hosted Feig’s films before, including a work-in-progress screening of “Bridesmaids” in 2011 and the premiere of “Spy” in 2015.

Actor Taidu of Junka Town Fame passes on

Actor Abdullai Tahiru, popularly known as Taidu Last Killer from the Takoradi-based comic movie group Junka Town, has passed away. Taidu was known for his role as a well-built vigilante in the iconic series. He is reported to have passed away in the early hours of Sunday, February 9, 2025. The cause of his death is yet to be disclosed. Videos shared by his colleagues on social media captured solemn moments as preparations were made for his burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

The late artist Mustafa Al-Shater, one of the founders of the Aznzarne Group, was buried yesterday, Tuesday, February 11, 2025, in the city of Inzegane, on the outskirts of Agadir. The late artist passed away on the morning of the same day after a long artistic career that started with the Laqdam group and other musical groups, then the Aznzaran group. He was one of the most prominent players of the Kabir on the santur and had a melodious voice. The late artist suffered from heart disease for years and was confined to bed until his death.

Sherine to Perform Live in Kuwait on April 4

Egyptian superstar, Sherine Abdel-Wahab will perform live at the Kuwait International Fairground, in Mubarak Al-Abdullah, Kuwait, on Friday, April 4. She is set to present several of her popular and latest songs. Born on October 8, 1980, Sherine was first discovered as a child by her school music teacher, who convinced her mother to take her to the Cairo Opera House to meet veteran musician Selim Sahab. The acclaimed singer auditioned before him, who liked her voice a lot. She served as a choral member at the Cairo Opera House from the age of nine to twelve and was then given a chance to become a solo singer. Sherine kept performing at the Cairo Opera House while looking for a music producer to launch her professional career.

The concert, originally scheduled to take place at the hotel, will now be held at Lugogo Cricket Oval on February 21st. The event organiser, Nobat Events, confirmed the change, emphasising their determination to proceed with the show. In a video shared on TikTok, Nobat stated defiantly, “They can’t stop us, they can never and will never.” With less than two weeks remaining, Alien Skin and his team now have to focus on rehearsals and final preparations for the big day.
