Watendawili

Music Artist

Watendawili is a Kenyan Afro-fusion music duo from Nairobi made up of Israel Onyach and Ywaya. They blend R&B, Afrobeat, soul, and traditional Luo rhythms to create music that’s contemporary but rooted in East African sound traditions. The duo first connected at open-mic sessions and gradually built a following in Kenya’s vibrant urban music scene. Their breakthrough came as part of Sol Generation Records (the Nairobi label co-founded by members of Sauti Sol), though they eventually moved on to fully craft their own artistic direction. Their 2024 album En Route features tracks like “Safari” (with Shad Mziki), “Cham Thum (Atoti)”, “Hadi Kesho”, and more. In 2025 they were among the top streamed local artists in Kenya, with multiple songs landing in Spotify’s local charts — a sign of their growing influence and appeal.
