Digital music streaming platform Spotify has acknowledged Ghanaian musicians as major contributors to African love music. Several Ghanaian artists earned spots on its prestigious “100 Best African Love Songs”.
The Egyptian Musicians Syndicate, headed by Mostafa Kamel, issued an order on Tuesday to ban Lebanese singer Haifa Wehbe from performing in Egypt. This decision was made based on a complaint filed by syndicate member Khaled Mostafa Hassanein, also known as Khaled al-Tohamy, who previously worked as her business manager. The memorandum submitted to the head of the Syndicate and members of the Board of Directors detailed the complaint and the measures taken. Wehbe was summoned for investigation on two occasions, but failed to appear.
Popular musician Dr Malinga, who made headlines after buying a R2 million car recently bought a new vehicle for his wife. The veteran artist's latest video comes after he asked South Africans for donations and slammed reports that he bought a new McLaren. X user @KabeloMohlah02 shared a video of the musician gifting his wife a new car. In the video, the artist is heard asking his wife to close her eyes and surprises her with a new car.
A sparkling selection of the city’s women creators and creatives gathered at MultiChoice Namibia to honour Namibian women in film last week. Titled ‘EmpowerHer: A Celebration of Namibian Women in Film’, the event invited its trailblazing attendees to wear their most empowering suit to a soirée and film screening of film-maker Hildegard Titus’ ‘Die Rooftog’. “As the world celebrates International Women’s Month, the film and television industry is revealing itself as a powerful arena of gender transformation and a highly effective vehicle for empowering women,” says MultiChoice Namibia corporate affairs manager Elzita Beukes. “This is especially the case for Africa where women occupy several leadership roles in this industry. These roles are pivotal as they set the tone for the sector at large, influencing the content being created, as well as the attitudes of the young audiences exposed to the material within the film.”
Ghanaian reggae artiste Ras Kuuku, has expressed doubt about Nacee’s gospel artiste status. In a conversation with DJ Slim on Daybreak Hitz Ras Kuuku expressed his disagreement with the TGMA’s Board’s decision to limit the gospel categories to only gospel musicians. Responding to why people like him will not be allowed to compete in the gospel categories, he questioned if Nacee is a gospel musician. “Nacee is not a gospel musician, Nacee is a producer,” he noted. When DJ Slim pointed out that Nacee has produced and performed many gospel songs, Ras Kuuku indicated that that Nacee has also produced secular songs like ‘Kwen Kwen’, a song he composed for the National Democratic Congress political party.
Kate Winslet is set to make her directorial debut with with “Goodbye June,” a contemporary family movie that is being produced for Netflix. Along with directing and producing the movie, Winslet will also star in it alongside Toni Collette, Johnny Flynn, Andrea Riseborough, Timothy Spall, and Helen Mirren. Kate Solomon is producing with Winslet, with Working Title as executive producers. Penned by Joe Anders, Winslet’s son, the movie is set in present-day England and is described as “touching, yet humorous” drama, which sees "a fractured group of siblings pull together under sudden and trying circumstances,” the synopsis reads. "Goodbye June" will go into production on location in the U.K. later this year. Although Winslet has never directed a film, she was highly involved in Ellen Kuras’s “Lee,” which she produced and starred in as American photographer Lee Miller.

Nigerian media personality, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, has encouraged Nigerian politicians and officials to wear traditional attire when attending functions outside the country. He made this statement in a post on his verified X account on Thursday. He wrote: I think Nigerian politicians and officials should wear traditional attire even more when they are out of the country. Ebuka, who is renowned for hosting the reality television show, Big Brother Naija, has won several awards for his contributions to the media industry. Rita Laurence Ngarambe, Rwanda’s representative at Miss Face of Humanity 2022 and the First Runner-Up in the global competition, has announced she is preparing for her wedding in Rwanda with her fiancé, Jordan Cahill. The couple, who have been together for six years, will celebrate their union with family and friends in Kigali. According to the wedding invitations, the traditional 'Gusaba & Gukwa' ceremony will take place on March 8, 2025, at Juru Park, Rebero in Kigali. The intimate celebration will bring together their loved ones for a special reception. Speaking to InyaRwanda, Ngarambe revealed that she and Jordan officially married in Canada on February 10, 2024, with both a civil and church wedding. She explained that they chose to hold the Rwandan cultural ceremony at home so their families, who couldn’t attend the Canada wedding, could be part of their journey.
Ghanaian artiste Trigmatic has recounted how he escaped a deal from a record label in the United Kingdom at the nascent stage of his career. According to him, the label promised glamour but upon consultations, he realised the deal would have cost him ownership of the masters to his debut album ‘Permanent Stains.’ Speaking to Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A to Z, Trigmatic noted that some record label deals can be limiting to an artiste's craft and career, but the onus lies with the artiste to weigh options and decide what to do when such offers come. “I had an offer. They actually flew me to check their studios in the UK. I will never forget. And at the time, 'My Life' was big. Before they tried to sign me I was chasing them because they had a very big artiste globally and they were always coming to Ghana,” he said.
Kweku Flick believes the time for him to win awards will eventually come. The young Ghanaian artiste was optimistic in his recent interview. While he has not been winning awards, Flick is focusing on the future and believing in what it holds for him. “I believe in time, so I know it will get to a time when this same question will turn into ‘You have been winning all the major awards in and outside the country, what’s the magic?’ I do appreciate everything, and I have never felt disappointed. Very soon, y’all will understand,” he said in an interview with Graphic Showbiz.
