Upcoming Ghanaian singer Xheila has explained why she avoids talking about her father, veteran highlife musician Nana Acheampong, during interviews. In an interview on Hitz FM, Xheila, born Sheila Acheampong, said focusing on her father takes attention away from her music and craft. The rising artiste, who is the younger sister of popular singer Gyakie, stated that she wanted to be known for her own work and not because of her father’s legacy. Xheila emphasised that she was building her career on her talent and did not want people to think she was riding on her father’s name. Speculations about the relationship between Nana Acheampong and Xheila intensified recently after a video of the highlife legend went viral.

Speaking passionately about the challenges plaguing the industry, he emphasized the urgent need for financial backing, better royalty systems, and more recognition for Ghanaian artists on the global stage. Namukasa explains that music enthusiasts lately ignore music with meaningful lyrics and that when someone releases impactful music, it is often suppressed and not given attention at all yet when someone drops a song with inappropriate lyrics they’re often applauded. The “Emikisa Gya Bakazi” singer notes that not until that situation is fixed, the Ugandan music industry is likely to take a dip for many years. She also explains that lately, most artists ditched the norm of singing good music and no longer care about what they musically feed their audiences. These days there is a tendency of people not paying attention to music with meaningful lyrics but when someone comes up with a song full of inappropriate lyrics, you find it trending all over. When someone sings a meaningful music, it is not supported. We have sidelined God in our everyday lives.
A painting by the renowned artist Banksy is set to be auctioned in London on March 4, with an estimated price of around $6 million. Sotheby’s auction house announced that the artwork, titled Crude Oil (Vettriano) is part of the collection of Mark Hoppus, co-founder of the band Blink-182, and his wife, who purchased it in 2011. The painting will first be displayed at Sotheby’s New York headquarters from February 18 to 20 before being moved to London, where it will be exhibited from February 26 to March 4. The artwork is a reimagined version of The Singing Butler (1992) by Scottish artist Jack Vettriano, which originally depicts a couple dancing on a windswept beach, accompanied by a maid and a butler holding umbrellas. In Banksy’s version, however, the maid is replaced by two men in hazmat suits carrying containers of toxic waste, reinforcing his signature social critique.
