Nigerian music superstar, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has made history as the first African artiste to feature on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Rolling Stone is an American monthly magazine that focuses on music, politics, and popular culture. According to Rolling Stone, the Afrobeats sensation known for breaking boundaries on the global stage, is the Cover Star for the April edition of the prestigious magazine. Mavi Records lauded the uncommon feat with a post on its official Instagram page: “Rave Lordé Rema the Afrobeats Visionary, makes history as @Rollingstone USA First African Cover Star!” Following the recognition, the ‘Heis’ crooner thrilled audiences with an electrifying performance at the Rolling Stone concert, performing some of his hit songs, including ‘Dumebi’, ‘Woman’ and ‘Calm Down’.

On Friday, January 3, Moroccan artist Salim Bennani and artist Rim Fakri released the video clip of their new duet song “Da Haram” on Salim’s official YouTube channel. The song "Da Haram" was composed and written by a team that includes Salim Bennani, Amin Al-Bayadh, Karim B, and Reem Fakri. The clip achieved more than 400 thousand views on YouTube in three days, and ranked 22nd in the Moroccan trends. It is noteworthy that the collaboration between Salim and Reem is not the first of its kind, as they previously released a joint work in October 2021 entitled "Ya Donia". The "Ya Donia" clip dealt with the issue of sexual harassment in a dramatic manner.
Kate Winslet is set to make her directorial debut with with “Goodbye June,” a contemporary family movie that is being produced for Netflix. Along with directing and producing the movie, Winslet will also star in it alongside Toni Collette, Johnny Flynn, Andrea Riseborough, Timothy Spall, and Helen Mirren. Kate Solomon is producing with Winslet, with Working Title as executive producers. Penned by Joe Anders, Winslet’s son, the movie is set in present-day England and is described as “touching, yet humorous” drama, which sees "a fractured group of siblings pull together under sudden and trying circumstances,” the synopsis reads. "Goodbye June" will go into production on location in the U.K. later this year. Although Winslet has never directed a film, she was highly involved in Ellen Kuras’s “Lee,” which she produced and starred in as American photographer Lee Miller.
Egyptian director and screenwriter Samy El-Siwi, 75, passed away in the early hours of Sunday. Born in 1949, El-Siwi began his career as an assistant director on several TV series, including A Trip in a Crazy World (1986), Spring in Storm (1988), Me, You, and a Long Journey (1989), Men in the Trap (1989), and There’s a Man in Our House (1995). He collaborated with director Radwan El-Kashef in screenwriting some of his films, including Why, Violets? (1993), starring Farouk El-Fishawy, and The Magician (2002), starring Mahmoud Abdel Aziz. He also co-wrote Ard Ard (1998) with director Ismail Morad, which stars Farouk El-Fishawy, Elham Shahin, Ashraf Abdel Baky, and Hassan Hosny.
Nollywood actress Patience ‘Pat’ Ugwu, popularly known as ‘Sugar Girl,’ has died. She was known for her roles in Lack of Money (2018), Port-Harcourt Lady (2019), and Twist of Fate (2020). She was 35. Beyond acting, she was an online fitness coach for PatPat Fitness, a beauty business owner, and a Permanent Makeup Trainer. Her death was announced on Wednesday in an Instagram post by veteran actor Emeka Okoye, who expressed deep sorrow and shared details of her funeral arrangements. Expressing his shock, Okoye wrote on Instagram, Rest in peace, sis. Pat Ugwu. @patpat_ugwu. So, we no get to work again? Death why? God, please. Rest in peace, PAT. May your soul rest in the bosom of the Lord. Please protect all my colleagues, especially those I’m close to. This unusual death is frightening. I proclaim life to everyone close to me this 2025 in the precious blood of Jesus. Amen.”

The artiste has begun to reap the rewards of his patience, strategic planning and dedication despite facing numerous hurdles along the way. In 2018, Shellah announced his arrival on the music scene with his four-track Extended Play (EP) titled “I’m Shellah Black.” However, the 30-year-old has encountered financial constraints that have made pursuing his dream a challenge. “After releasing the ‘Nerudo’ album, I had to shelve my music career as I had exhausted my funds,” he explained. “I earned nothing from my first EP because I failed to market the project, which led me to take a five-year hiatus from music.”

Nollywood actress May Edochie is responding to Chidi Uzoma, known as Baba De Baba, due to some claims he made about her. GistLover reported that Baba De Baba posted a video saying Edochie was trying to harm him and his family. He also accused her of kidnapping his son. In a post, the actress’s lawyer confirmed that Baba De Baba was taken into custody for cyberstalking, cyberbullying, and additional criminal acts. He added that the arrest happened after two weeks of police observation. The lawyer explained how they tricked him into getting caught by the police. They pretended to have a deal for him and negotiated with him. According to the attorney, Baba De Baba mentioned that he asked for N10,000,000 and a fee for each appearance, which they agreed to pay. He added that the comedian showed up to sign the contract and was arrested then. In his post, the lawyer stated that they filed a criminal petition against the comedian last month.
