Akinmayokun Awodumila, popularly known as May D, has warned fans to stop comparing him to Wizkid (Ayo Balogun), and this has caused an uproar on social media It is the second time in 2025 that May D would issue a similar warning. In January, during an appearance on the Honest Bunch Podcast, he boasted about being bigger than Nigeria’s top three artistes, including Davido. Also, May D previously claimed that his Grammy-winning colleague, Wizkid, wouldn’t have been on his level if he hadn’t fallen out with his former record label, Square Records.

“The Seven Dogs” is an upcoming film set to release in 2025, featuring prominent Egyptian actors Karim Abdel Aziz and Ahmed Ezz in the lead roles. Filming commenced in early 2025 at the newly launched AlHisn Big Time Studios in Riyadh, a state-of-the-art facility equipped with advanced filmmaking technologies.

Organisers of the 23rd National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) ceremony will officially unveil nominees on Wednesday, thereby ending weeks of anticipation. Following the excitement generated around this year’s edition, which is scheduled for Harare on March 31, event organisers have promised numerous surprises. The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ), in partnership with the Jacaranda Culture and Media Corporation (JCMC), is behind the awards ceremony. NACZ communications and marketing manager Agga Nyabinde confirmed the developments. “The nominees for the 23rd NAMAs will be announced on February 12 at 10:00am on Facebook (@NAMASZim) and YouTube (NAMAs),” he said. “We will announce the venue along with the nominees.” As part of the festivities, Nyabinde assured fans that they will be treated to an exciting awards ceremony. He also indicated that a new dance group has been assembled to participate in the event.

Tuli Mekondjo’s star continues to rise as she prepares to show at the Stellenbosch Triennale. The prestigious event returns to the historic town of Stellenbosch from 19 February to 30 April under the theme ‘BA’ZINZILE: A Rehearsal for Breathing’, which features three exhibitions, namely ‘From the Vault’, ‘In the Current’ and ‘On the Cusp’. Tuli Mekondjo will make her triennale debut as a featured artist in ‘On the Cusp’, a platform designed to spotlight emerging artists from Africa and the diaspora. This year’s ‘On the Cusp’ cohort incudes artists from Colombia, Chile, Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and South Africa. “It’s my very first time being invited to the Stellenbosch Triennale and I feel great,” says Tuli Mekondjo at her studio in Windhoek. The self-taught Namibian artist will be presenting the third iteration of her multidisciplinary ‘Eshina lyo ku topa topa/Typewriter’ within the triennale programme.
