Rise

Rise is a powerful Zimbabwean coming-of-age drama that tells the story of a young boy named Rise, who lives on a rubbish dump and struggles to survive in difficult circumstances. His life begins to change when he meets Tobias, a withdrawn boxing coach who initially wants nothing to do with him. Determined to find safety, strength and a sense of belonging, Rise keeps pushing his way into the coach's life and asks to be trained. Their relationship gradually develops into an unexpected bond built around trust, mentorship and healing. The film presents the harsh realities faced by vulnerable children while also showing how compassion and human connection can give someone a new sense of hope. Shot in Zimbabwe with an African cast and crew, Rise has a strong African identity and uses its Victoria Falls setting to create an intimate story about resilience, dignity and the desire to be seen.
