Childhood friends Hakeem and Carissa promise to marry beneath the trees before tragedy tears them apart. In Matters Of The Heart, Carissa loses her parents in a car crash and her uncle casts her onto the streets at fifteen while Hakeem leaves for school. Years later Hakeem is engaged to Sophia and preparing a lavish wedding when he finds Carissa working at a salon in Lekki. He learns the depth of her suffering and secures her a salon of her own. Sophia discovers their rekindled bond and attacks Carissa at her workplace. Hakeem ends his engagement publicly and chooses Carissa.
