Behind the Palm Trees

The story is set mainly in Tangier, Morocco, a city where Moroccan and European cultures meet. The film uses this setting to explore differences in wealth, social class, relationships, and the complicated connections between Morocco and France.

The central character, Mehdi, is a young Moroccan man whose life becomes complicated when he encounters Marie, a wealthy French woman. Their relationship brings together people from very different social and cultural backgrounds. Selma, who is connected to Mehdi, also becomes important to the emotional conflict.

The film's background is therefore not just about the physical location. Tangier represents the contrast between different worlds: local Moroccan society and the privileged European environment, wealth and economic struggle, tradition and modern life.
