Alahun [The Weaver]

“Alahun: The Weaver” is a 2026 Nigerian Yoruba-language epic fantasy/adventure film. It was released in Nigerian cinemas on August 21, 2026. Silverbird Cinemas lists it as a 2-hour-10-minute Yoruba-language epic/drama.

The movie follows a young man who is ridiculed because he loves weaving baskets and plaiting hair, activities his society considers unsuitable for men. His life changes when he becomes involved in a dangerous mystical journey connected to the fate of his kingdom. The story explores courage, identity, destiny and the idea that strength is not limited to physical power.

What makes the film particularly interesting is its strong Yoruba cultural foundation. It combines traditional crafts, mythology, royal politics, mystical worlds and adventure, while using the weaver as an unusual kind of hero. The film also touches on rigid ideas about masculinity and challenges the belief that certain skills or professions belong only to women.
