Rwanda's Israel Mbonyi earns pan-African nomination at 2025 Trace Awards in Zanzibar

Israel Mbonyi stands as the sole Rwandan artist nominated for the 2025 Trace Awards, an event celebrating Afro-urban music and culture. Set to take place at Mora Resort in Zanzibar, Tanzania, from February 24 to 26, Mbonyi earned a nod in the Pan-African category for Best Gospel Artist. His Kiswahili gospel song "Sikiliza" received special recognition, earning him a spot alongside other celebrated nominees such as Tanzania's Bella Kombo, South Africa's Spirit of Praise 10, Nigerian artists Mercy Chinwo and Ada Ehi, and Ivorian rapper and evangelist KS Bloom. Following the success of its inaugural edition in Kigali in October 2023, the Trace Awards return with a celebration of Africa’s leading artists and the cultural narratives that inspire their craft. The 2025 event features 28 categories, honoring the continent's most popular music genres and talents, with live broadcasts in over 200 countries in English, French, and Portuguese.

Spyro tackles Christians, says they are the biggest scam, liars

Nigerian singer Oludipe Oluwasanmi David popularly known as Spyro disclosed that he was blackmailed using a purported sex tape. On Tuesday, February 4, he made a number of posts on his Instagram story that contained this information. Spyro claimed that after confronting the individual about their wrongdoing, the blackmail began. Additionally, he noted that the individual is religious and asserted that some of the most egregious liars and con artists are frequently religious individuals. According to Spyro, people commit sins and cover up their wrongdoings by posing as spiritual and hiding behind their beliefs.

A sneak peek at Ahmed Mekki's new Ramadan TV series Al-Ghawy

Al-Ghawy, which will be aired during Ramadan, marks Mekki's return after his peak in Al-Kabeer and Al-Kabeer Awy, aired between 2010 and 2024 in eight seasons. Directed by Mohamed Gamal Al Adl to the scenario by Mahmoud Zahran and Tarek Al-Kashef, Al-Ghawy will mark Mekki’s departure from light comedy towards a new emotional, dramatic role. Mekki portrays Shams Nasr Al-Adawi, a thug who decides to improve his life after his wife’s death. However, challenges appear on his way as he struggles to become a proper single dad.

Actor C Confion passes on while battling illness at KATH

Ghanaian actor and comedian Bright Owusu, popularly known as C Confion, has passed away while undergoing treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi. Why my son bears Igbo name - Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour's father

Olawale Rhodes-Vivour has revealed the reason why his son, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the 2023 governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Lagos, bears an Igbo name. Since Gbadebo contested the 2023 election and lost, his detractors have capitalised on the fact that he bears an Igbo name, Chinedu. According to them, Gbadebo's lack of fluency in the Yoruba language is because he leans more towards the Igbo ethnicity of his mother, Nkechi. However, in an interview going viral on social media, his father went down memory lane to authenticate Gbadebo as a Yoruba man. He said, "The only way I can authenticate Gbadebo’s situation is to give a timeline from when he was born till now to establish exactly where he was, at what time and what he was doing. "I married his mother, Mrs Nkechi Rhodes-Vivour, on the 28th day of August 1982 at Port Harcourt. The next year Gbadebo was born at Ejire Memorial Medical Centre by Doctor Olurin.
