Spotify has announced Nigerian gospel singer, songwriter, and worship leader Sunmisola Agbebi as the EQUAL Africa Artist for February 2025, recognising her talent and impact in the gospel music industry. Sunmisola Agbebi joins Qing Madi in the 2025 EQUAL Africa programme that showcases outstanding female talent from the continent. Born with a passion for music, Sunmisola began singing at the age of four and has remained steadfast in her journey. Her talent has seen her participate in numerous gospel competitions, earning accolades and solidifying her reputation as one of the artists advancing gospel music. In November 2020, she released her debut single, 'Amazing', a song that remains a cornerstone of her musical journey. Sunmisola recently released 'Holy Spirit', an expression of reverence and dependence on the Spirit of God. Her ability to convey deep spiritual messages through her music has earned her a devoted fan base.
The Ogun State Police Command on Thursday arraigned nine proteges of controversial singer, Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, before a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta, for allegedly assaulting officers of the Ota Zonal Planning office of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development. Naija News learnt that Portable, who is also involved in the assault, is reportedly on the run. he nine suspects are Nurudeen Warris, 21; Adetola Alashe, 25; Samuel Adeleke, 28; Oluwaseun Ayenuwa, 19; Oluwapelumi Adeosun, 20; Gospel Kanu, 20; Precious Ohiegebo, 19; Ifeoluwa Babatunde, 27; and Fatimo Muhammed,26. The defendants were arraigned on a five-count charge of bordering on felony, assault and restriction, armed with cutlasses and guns, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and intending to kill the town planning officers.
The Nigerian film industry has lost another of its veteran performers, Columbus Irisoanga, fondly known as ‘Igbudu’ following his unforgettable role in the 2001 Nollywood classic Isakaba. His passing was announced by actress and politician Hilda Dokubo, who expressed her deep sorrow over his death in an emotional Instagram post. “Our uncle Coli @colu_mbusirisoanga has gone to be with the Lord. Ikoli eh dein na mu. There can’t be a shortage of Angels in heaven that the few here are called home like this na! This one is heavy on Uniport, Rivers State, Nollywood,” Dokubo wrote. Irisoanga’s death is a significant loss not just for Nollywood but also for the academic community. He was a respected senior lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), where he earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD degrees. Over the years, he nurtured and mentored many students who have gone on to become industry professionals.

Controversial singer Portable has called out Davido, accusing him of purchasing a watch worth $30,000 and falsely claiming it’s valued at $100 million. In a viral video circulating on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Portable recounted a recent encounter with Davido. During their conversation, Davido allegedly advised Portable not to sign with Sony Music but to consider Empire Records instead. Portable claims he later discovered through his promoter that Davido himself is signed to Sony and benefits significantly from the deal. Feeling betrayed, Portable accused Davido of offering “fake love” and leading a false lifestyle. The singer further alleged that Davido had exaggerated the value of his watch, adding to the criticism. The allegations have sparked mixed reactions from fans and followers of both artists. Ghanaian comedian Lekzy DeComic has opened up about the anxiety he faced while publicizing his comedy show. The New False, which was held on December 28, 2024. In an interview on Hitz FM on January 20, 2025, Lekzy, whose real name is Emmanuel Nkansah Ansong, recounted the challenges and fears he encountered during the promotion of the event. Lekzy revealed that he struggled to secure a venue and eventually settled on the UPSA auditorium. The choice of venue seemed appropriate, as it was a popular location for political party launches, aligning with the political connotation of his show's title, The New False. However, the publicity campaign, which included billboards featuring artwork of a man behind a mask, initially failed to generate the expected response.
