Teddy Osei, one of the pioneering founder of Afro-rock band Osibisa, has died in London. The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) President Bessa Simons confirmed his passing on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. Osei’s journey from Kumasi, Ghana to international stardom embodied the spirit of African music innovation. Born in December 1937, he transformed from a self-taught saxophonist into a groundbreaking bandleader who helped define the Afro-rock genre. His musical path began unconventionally – he picked up the saxophone by chance when another musician failed to show up for band practice during his college days in Sekondi. This twist of fate led him to master the instrument by playing along to jazz records. Before founding Osibisa, Osei led The Comets, a successful Ghanaian band influenced by Highlife music. In 1962, he embarked on a transformative journey to London, where he initially worked as a dishwasher before securing a government grant to study music and drama.

The administrators of the estate of the fallen Kadongo Kamu legend, Job Paul Kafeero through their lawyers Libirige & CO. Advocates have issued Luga Flow rapper Gravity Omutujju with an intention to sue over Walumbe Zaaya. The document dated 11th February states that in 2012, Gravity Omutujju, real name Gereson Wabuyu together with Pitaxon and producer Rinex under Big Talent reproduced, shot a remix version, and continued performing the song without the family’s authorization. The video uploaded on the singer’s YouTube channel features audio, visual fixation, beats, lyrics, and voices of the deceased with no authorization. “These acts constitute gross violations of copyright and neighboring rights including but not limited to: Violation of the Author’s Moral and Economic Rights, Unlawful reproduction, adaptation, and distribution of copyrighted work and unauthorized commercial exploitation of the Late Paul Kafeero’s intellectual property rights,” read part of the notice.
Zeenat Balogun, daughter of a popular Nollywood actor, Saheed Balogun, is dead. The actor, who announced the passing of his daughter on Saturday via his verified Instagram account, posted a solemn image of a candlelight surrounded by flowers, accompanied by heartbroken emojis. Hours later, his former wife, Fathia Balogun, and colleague, Ronke Ojo, popularly known as Ronke Oshodi Oke, confirmed the news via their Instagram accounts. Posting an image of a candle, Fathia wrote, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un”. Also, Ojo wrote, “No words can ease the pain of losing someone so precious. My heart goes out to you, @saidibalogun, during this incredibly difficult time.
