About Artist
Ruy Filipe is a highly accomplished South African costume designer. He is famous for his work on major global and local movies, television shows, and commercials. Over a career spanning decades, he has brought stories to life by designing authentic outfits for characters in over 200 commercials and numerous acclaimed films.
Some of his biggest movie projects include the historical dramas Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, Hotel Rwanda, and the Netflix thriller Silverton Siege. His exceptional talent in period and contemporary styling has earned him three prestigious SAFTA Golden Horn Awards for Best Costume Design.
Beyond working directly on film sets, he helps the broader creative community as the owner of Ikaya House of Costumes, a premier wardrobe rental company based in Cape Town. He studied his craft at the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema.
