Described as a rare Nigerian psychological thriller, The Weekend follows a young woman, Nikya, who persuades her fiance, Luke, to visit his parents whom he hasn’t seen in a decade. After a series of disturbing family encounters, Nikya begins to sense that something is terribly wrong - a secret she might be safer not discovering. Even a local carpenter warns her to stay away. As tensions rise, one of the guests suddenly disappears. Directed by Daniel Oriahi, the film stars Uzoamaka Aniunoh, Bucci Franklin, Ekpenyong Bassey Inyang, Meg Otanwa, Gloria Anozie Young, Damilola Ogunsi, James Gardiner, and Bryan Okoye. The Weekend will be screened on October 13, 16, and 17 at the festival.

One of Nigeria's favourite stars Runtown has delighted fans with the announcement of a new single. The singer made the revelation on his Instagram story where he posted "New music out soon. #EndAMan". The song likely titled 'End A Man' comes off the back of the recent release of Runtown's 'Flow' released in December 2024 which was his first release in two years. Runtown, one of Afrobeats' most memorable hitmakers has carved a niche for himself as an artist who lets the music do the talking. Since releasing his impressive debut album 'Ghetto University' a decade ago which housed the super hits 'Garlado' featuring Davido and 'Bendown Pause' featuring Wizkid, Runtown has become a force to be reckoned with. On Thursday, January 16, 2025, the presiding judge granted the order after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed an ex parte motion for his arrest. Bilikisu Buhari, representing the EFCC in court, cited legal provisions under Section 35(1)(c) of the 1999 Constitution and Sections 35, 36, 37, 38, and 39 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, to support the application. The EFCC stated that they received a petition from the singer against her former manager after she accused him of receiving royalties from her digital platforms and events without informing her of the transactions. They also stated that the manager allegedly diverted about $345,000 without allocating the singer her share of the funds. They added that if the manager cannot be apprehended, the EFCC would resort to a public summons to declare him wanted. The court has adjourned the case until January 24 for arraignment of the manager.

With five Grammy nominations across multiple categories, Shaboozey stood out as the Nigerian artiste with the most nominations, marking a significant moment in his genre-bending music career. Shaboozey, who performed his hit song, “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” at the ceremony, received five nominations for Best New Artiste, Song of the Year, Best Country Song, and Best Country Solo Performance. He was also nominated for Best Melodic Rap Performance for his feature on Beyoncé’s “Spaghetti”. He received a sixth nomination for Best Remixed Recording thanks to David Guetta’s remix of his song.
A French court has convicted French film director Christophe Ruggia of sexually abusing actress Adèle Haenel when she was underage. He will avoid prison as the court sentenced him to a two-year suspended term and two years under house arrest.Ruggia was also ordered to pay €15,000 to Haenel. In one of France's first big MeToo cases, Haenel accused Ruggia of repeatedly touching her inappropriately when she was between 12 and 15-years-old, after they met while working on the movie "The Devils" in 2001 Ruggia's lawyer, Fanny Colin, told reporters that her client maintained his innocence and would appeal the decision – the director has denied any wrongdoing since Haenel's first public accusations in 2019.

We came here today and veteran actor Mawuli Semevo has been involved in severe fire accident.
