Nollywood actor, Bayo Bankole, popularly known as Boy Alinco for his role in the sitcom Papa Ajasco, has urged Nigerian parents to stop giving their kids names like Jayden and Biden. This was as he wondered why it has become a trend to give foreign names to children when Nigeria has beautiful Indigenous names. Bankole advised against the practice when he appeared on the Teju Babyface show. He said, "Don't give our children Jayden or Biden and all that stuff when we have beautiful names like Oluwaseun, Oluwapamilerinayo and Oluwasoromidayo. "Some will say they won't be able to call those names in schools. But it's a lie. They call Dutch names and Russian names that sound awkward. Indians will not change their names for anything in the world."
Local jazz enthusiasts will gather at Sherwood Golf Club in Mabelreign, Harare, on Saturday to celebrate the legacy of the late Bob “Headmaster” Nyabinde through song and dance. Nyabinde died on December 23, 2023, at the age of 68 after a long battle with a stroke. Following his death, his two sons – Albert and Agga Nyabinde – took over the reins and are making significant strides in the local music scene. The Nyabinde brothers this Saturday will serenade jazz lovers over the weekend. Veteran jazz crooner Victor Kunonga, a close friend of the late Nyabinde, will add variety to the event. Consistent jazz diva Prudence Katomeni-Mbofana is also part of the bill. Friends and fans of Nyabinde are expected to attend.

The disc jockey (DJ) space has in the past been dominated by males, but more women have broken the glass ceiling and made their mark in this arena. Female DJs often struggle with recognition and inclusion over their male counterparts. However, with the constant rise of female DJs, some significant changes have taken place where the women even invest on their crafts and study the art of DJ-ing. “There is substantial growth on this space for women, and maybe 30% of women DJs nowadays enjoy to be behind the decks, but there is still more males doing it,” acknowledged YDJ Academy director Leatile ‘Ydj’ Rapoo. Rapoo, an experienced DJ and music producer, whose career has spanned over 20 years, said they had received a lot of female students who were currently doing well in the industry. Compared to the past years, Rapoo said the female turnover at his academy is high. "We give lessons to everyone, and we give everyone a chance and support them equally regardless of gender,” he added.

The Ogun State Police Command on Thursday arraigned nine proteges of controversial singer, Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, before a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta, for allegedly assaulting officers of the Ota Zonal Planning office of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development. Naija News learnt that Portable, who is also involved in the assault, is reportedly on the run. he nine suspects are Nurudeen Warris, 21; Adetola Alashe, 25; Samuel Adeleke, 28; Oluwaseun Ayenuwa, 19; Oluwapelumi Adeosun, 20; Gospel Kanu, 20; Precious Ohiegebo, 19; Ifeoluwa Babatunde, 27; and Fatimo Muhammed,26. The defendants were arraigned on a five-count charge of bordering on felony, assault and restriction, armed with cutlasses and guns, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and intending to kill the town planning officers.
