He founded Golden Effects Pictures in 2005 and has directed notable works such as The Figurine, Phone Swap, and Citation. Afolayan, of Igbomina-Yoruba descent, started his career in 1999 and gained recognition with Irapada (2006), a key film in the New Nigerian Cinema movement. His subsequent films, including October 1 and Aníkúlápó, achieved both commercial success and critical acclaim, with partnerships including Netflix, which distributed several of his films and expanded collaboration by commissioning original projects. Afolayan’s works often explore social themes, blending entertainment with cultural commentary, establishing him as a leading figure in contemporary Nigerian cinema.
