Khaled El Sawi

Khaled El Sawy, born November 25, 1963, in Alexandria, Egypt, is a distinguished actor, writer, and director known for his impactful roles in film, television, and theater since the 1990s. He gained recognition for performances in notable works such as The Yacoubian Building, Cabaret, and The Blue Elephant. El Sawy studied law at Cairo University and later pursued directing at the Academy of Arts. His career began in theater, where he co-founded the Egyptian Foundation for Theater Enthusiasts, and he has worked as a director and an assistant director for various productions. El Sawy is celebrated for portraying complex and controversial characters, emphasizing that he sets no artistic boundaries if the work conveys a significant message. He is also known for voice acting in Arabic versions of animated films like Finding Nemo and The Incredibles. He will receive recognition at the 2026 Luxor African Film Festival.
