The International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) announced the selection of acclaimed Egyptian critic Ahmed Shawky as president of the Critics Jury at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival, which will be held in the German capital from February 13-23, 2025. The Berlin jury is the largest committee organized by the International Federation of Film Critics annually, as it includes 12 critics from around the world, each three of whom judge films in one of the festival’s sections. Shawky will participate in judging the films of the international competition in addition to chairing the jury in general.

Nigerian Afrobeats singer, Timaya, has raised alarm over herdsmen’s destruction of farmlands in his country home, Bayelsa State. Naia News reports that the ‘Dem Mama’ crooner, in a post via ? on Tuesday, appealed to the government to intervene in the situation. According to Timaya, the current destruction of farmlands is sad and urged the marauding herders to ranch their cattle. He wrote, “Pls the government should do something. They are destroying farms in Bayelsa. Aboki, take your in cow inside and feed them. This is so sad.”
Rwanda is set to open a fashion design and merchandising school in Kigali before the end of 2025. State Minister for Education, Claudette Irere, signed a letter of intent with Kent State University on January 22 during her visit to Ohio, United States, aiming for the partnership to establish the school.
