About Artist

Camilla Walker is a South African actress, television presenter and media professional. She is best known internationally for playing the Female Doctor/Clinic Doctor in the 2004 South African film Yesterday, directed by Darrell Roodt.

She was born in Queenstown, Eastern Cape, South Africa, and spent much of her childhood on an isolated farm. According to her biography, she spoke Xhosa before English, which later proved useful in her media and acting career. She studied at the University of Natal in Pietermaritzburg, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts, with Psychology and Afrikaans-Nederlands among her majors.

Before becoming known as an actress, Walker worked extensively in broadcasting. She began at SABC TV as a production secretary and later worked as an assistant television producer. She subsequently joined SABC Radio, where she became a specialist production manager at Ukhozi FM, the Zulu-language radio station. She also worked as a television presenter on SABC1's Simunye, presented sports on Mabaleng, and co-presented a parliamentary programme with Bob Mabena.

Her best-known film role is in Yesterday (2004), where she plays a caring doctor who diagnoses Yesterday. A contemporary review specifically praised Walker's portrayal of the doctor and her emotional involvement with Yesterday's situation.

Interestingly, director Darrell Roodt selected Walker partly because she was fluent in Zulu. She was the only white South African actor among the principal cast, and her character was written as a doctor serving the rural community.
