Billboard has shared its list of best R&B albums of 2024, with Nigeria’s Tems occupying the second position for her debut ‘Born in the Wild’ while ‘Mutt’, the second studio album by American musician and actor Leon Thomas, released on 27 September placed first. Other entries on the list include Chris Brown’s 11:11 (Deluxe), which occupies the 10th position; Bryson Tiller’s eponymous album placed ninth; Marsha Ambrosius’s Casablanco is eighth; and Laila!’s Gap Year! is seventh. Others are NxWorries’s ‘Why Lawd?’ occupying the sixth position, PARTYNEXTDOOR’s PARTYNEXTDOOR 4 at number five, Muni Long’s Revenge is number four, and Ravyn Lenae’s Bird’s Eye is number three. Tems’ debut album, released in June 2024 via RCA Records/Since ’93, featured collaborations with Afrobeats star Asake and US rapper J. Cole. Reviewing the album, PREMIUM TIMES described it as a ‘‘confident debut that cements her place in the global music scene, reaffirming her roots and influences’’.
ON TV channel has released the official trailer of the series “Shabab Emraa” (Women’s Youth), starring Ghada Abdel Razek. The series is set to air on WATCH IT and the ON TV channel during the upcoming Ramadan 2025 season.
Nollywood actor, Odunlade Adekola, has responded to controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, after confronting him over a remark about him. Naija News reports that Portable’s 4th babymama cum Nollywood actress, Ashabi Simple, was captured in a viral video online hugging Odunlade at a movie set. Displeased with the remark, Portable headed to the actor’s DM and quizzed him over the statement, stressing that he does not joke with his family and personal life. He said, “Wetin you talk inside that video with Ashabi simple pls I respect my home I no dey use am do movie why you go talk say shay she tell me before coming joh shay una no dey collect money for her hand ni. I respect that’s why I come your Dm. I no dey use my home play. Why you go talk like that. Na today I dey see una.”
Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has denied allegations suggesting he is responsible for the pregnancy of former Big Brother Naija housemate, Nengi Rebecca Hampson. Naija News reports that Diri attributed the viral claims to political opponents attempting to tarnish his reputation. The rumor gained traction after a popular blogging platform alleged that Governor Diri was involved in the ex-BBN star’s pregnancy. However, Nengi has publicly debunked the speculation on her social media accounts. Reacting to the reports, Governor Diri expressed shock and disappointment, questioning why such falsehoods were being spread, particularly on the day his administration marked its 5th anniversary.
For 90 minutes, the world-renowned soprano Amira Selim captivated an audience of nearly 30,000 in Qatar during her performance at the closing of the "Egyptian Cultural Week" held at "Darb Al Saai" in Umm Salal. She presented 12 diverse songs, ranging from Egyptian heritage to global arts, performed in Italian and French. She was accompanied by her fellow musicians and friends, Salah Abdallah, Ahmed Osman, and Jamal Alaa El-Din, who played the piano, double bass, and percussion instruments. Amira began the concert with the song "Eh Al-Abara" by the great composer Sayed Darwish, which she had previously performed in a new musical arrangement titled "Nostalgia" in a "vocalise" style—singing without words. She concluded the concert with the famous "Hymn to Isis," following the audience's enthusiastic request, as they were captivated by everything she presented throughout the event.
The storied career of theatremaker Sandy Rudd is set to ignite the National Theatre of Namibia (NTN) when the celebrated theatre doyen turns 70 years old in May. Titled ‘40 Years of Fabulous: A Retrospective of 40 Years of Theatre with Sandy Rudd’, the production was recently pitched to a roomful of theatremakers who have worked with Rudd across 161 productions spanning a variety of genres. Employing the idea of “looking back to see what we can do in the future”, ‘40 Years of Fabulous’ invites alumni of Rudd’s work in musicals, tribute shows, children’s theatre, special needs theatre, comedy, community theatre, Independence Day shows and College of the Arts Theatre School performances to sign up to be a part of the production.

Singer-songwriter Akwaboah has called for stricter regulations on the kind of songs that make it to the public airwaves. According to him, the increasing promotion of themes such as drugs, indiscriminate sex, and the obsession with money is having a negative impact on society. Speaking on the issue in an interview on Accra FM, Akwaboah reminded listeners that music is a powerful tool that influences people’s lives, making it crucial for artists to be mindful of the messages they put out. While he acknowledges that musicians have the freedom to express themselves, he believes there should be boundaries to prevent explicit content from taking over mainstream media.
An enigmatic artist who turned his hand to arthouse and blockbuster film, television, painting and music, Lynch was considered first and foremost one of US cinema's great auteurs. "It is with deep regret that we, his family, announce the passing of the man and the artist, David Lynch," read a statement on his official Facebook page. "There's a big hole in the world now that he's no longer with us. But, as he would say, 'Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.'" The cause and location of death were not specified. Lynch, who lived in Los Angeles, had suffered from emphysema after years of heavy smoking. He emerged on the US indie scene with his groundbreaking 1977 horror "Eraserhead," a creepy and now cult classic shot on a shoestring budget over five years because he kept running out of money and had a wife and daughter to support.
Over the years, Ghanaian musicians have been on the toes of the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) to make all necessary adjustments to get what they are due when payments are made. The latest artist to add up is Ded Buddy, who has even thrown away his Mobile Money SIM due to that. In an interview with Djqwequ on Ahomka FM, he narrated how he got pissed when he received his royalties from Ghamro, and due to that, he decided not to use that particular registered momo sim again.

Ntsiki has been on Nkayi's neck forever, and previously, she was angry that the media personality was still getting gigs even after her saga with Sizwe Dlomo. n her Instagram post, Unathi wrote: "Do better sis because you’re giving us middle kids a bad name. Your sisters are incredible, talented, powerful and beautiful women. South Africa let me give you context so that whenever that woman opens her mouth about me you know where it started.
