Musician and composer Mohamed Ben Abdel Salam passed away this Thursday morning in Rabat, at the age of 94, after suffering from illness, according to what his family learned. The deceased, who was born in the city of Sale, is considered one of the pillars of Moroccan singing art, as he accumulated a rich artistic career that spanned decades and influenced Moroccan song with immortal creative works. Ben Abdel Salam, who bore the title of "Master of Moroccan Zajal Song" during his lifetime, signed about 250 musical works performed by great artists such as Ismail Ahmed, Abdel Wahab Doukkali, Naima Samih, Bahiga Idris, and Mohamed Idrissi. The deceased also founded the "Ittihad Salawi" band, led the Moroccan Radio Variety Band, and participated in radio programs that left an imprint, such as "The Ear Has a Memory" and "Samar".

After a self-prescribed mainstream hiatus, theatre veteran Keamogetsi Molapong will return to the National Theatre of Namibia (NTN) with a production of Sifiso Nyathi’s ‘God of Women’. “It has been a long, long while since I’ve done a formal, mainstream play. I’m always asked: ‘So, when are we seeing something from you?’. So I’m just trying to answer that question as to when. It’s now,” says Molapong. For the last few years, the notable theatremaker has been focused on theatre as a tool to preserve and revive endangered languages in rural areas, primarily in collaboration with the Namibia University of Science and Technology. The playwright also worked on 26 indigenous language radio plays with NBC Radio. Having previously directed ‘God of Women’ for a tour in Eswatini and at the national theatre, Molapong returns to the source material with a view to illuminate the Namibian play for English second language pupils for whom it is a prescribed text.

For over 15 years, Longin Irunga, widely known as "Tukowote," has been a fundamental actor of Rwanda's cinema, leaving a long-lasting mark on the country's acting scene. Dr. Ayman El-Shiwi, Dean of the Higher Institute of Theatrical Arts and Director of the National Theater announced that the play King Lear, starring Yehia El-Fakharany and directed by Shady Sorour Ali, will be staged again at the National Theater after Eid Al-Fitr 2025. Shakespeare’s King Lear tells the story of King Lear, who decides to divide his kingdom among his three daughters. His youngest daughter refuses to flatter him, so he disinherits her. He then sets a condition that he will live with each daughter for a certain period while distributing his wealth. However, his daughters conspire to seize everything for themselves.
